The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped in the form of Pateeswarar. The presiding deity is known for his significance and divine presence. The temple exhibits traditional South Indian Dravidian architecture. The intricate carvings, sculptures, and towering gopurams (entrance towers) are notable features of the temple. The temple complex has several gopurams, including the famous Kanaka Sabha Gopuram. The Kanaka Sabha, or Golden Hall, is a significant structure within the temple premises. The Kanaka Sabha Mandapam is an assembly hall within the temple known for its beautiful sculptures and artistic pillars. It is believed to be a venue for celestial gatherings. The temple celebrates the annual Panguni Uthiram festival with great fervor. The festival attracts devotees from various parts of the region.
