Triambakeshwar mandir

Triambakeshwar Mandir is situated at the source of the Godavari River, near the Brahmagiri mountain ranges. The temple's location is significant as it marks the origin of the sacred Godavari River. The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are considered to be the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva. The Linga (an iconic representation of Shiva) in the temple is unique as it has three faces, symbolizing Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Rudra (Shiva) – hence the name Triambakeshwar.  The temple showcases classic Hemadpanthi architecture, which is a style prevalent in Maharashtra. The structure is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures depicting various mythological themes. Adjacent to the temple is the Kushavarta Kund, a sacred pond where pilgrims traditionally perform rituals and take a holy dip before entering the temple. The Kushavarta Kund is believed to be the source of the Godavari River. A large statue of Nandi, the sacred bull and mount of Lord Shiva, is positioned in front of the temple entrance. Pilgrims often offer prayers to Nandi before entering the main sanctum. The sanctum sanctorum houses the Jyotirlinga and is surrounded by a stone wall with silver doors. Pilgrims circumambulate the Jyotirlinga in a clockwise direction as part of their worship. Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm at Trimbakeshwar Temple.
